02:58 pm - RV-ers at Denvention3
It turns out it is possible to stay at Cherry Creek State Park and there is a concrete path (about 1 mile, unlighted, no stairs) to the Denver Light Rail Nine-Mile station, which goes directly into the convention center, it looks like. I went by yesterday and it's a very nice park, but not much cheaper than commercial RV parks after you buy the obligatory day pass as well as the campsite. But the sites are spacious and non-fen might want to stay in camp and boat and fish and fly model airplanes and bicycle and have campfires and so forth). Very clean and seems pretty safe and pleasant.
If anybody is interested, there were a few sites not yet reserved online as of yesterday evening, mostly full hookups.

I also found a small commercial RV park with direct bus connections, not for large rigs, usual amenities and clean enough but not too classy. If interested, leave a comment here with your email and I'll give you the details.

Impressive, no? What might be learned from this?
My agenda is to prompt humans to stop leaving all our species' eggs in one fragile basket. Anything that draws public attention to the unwisdom of not providing sufficient off-Terra settlements is beneficial. So pray do babble away about this, all you scientists and science writers. Heinlein convinced me; what does it take to convince you-all? Tunguska might yet do it; one may hope.
...Dammit! We had humans on the moon in 1969. So why are we - ALL - STILL - sitting here, fat, dumb and happy, in the crosshairs of Fate's cosmic shooting gallery? Get out there and get to work on establishing self-sufficient populations so that there's somebody left to carry on if the blue marble goes bust.
My preference is near-earth asteroid settlements - quick, cheap and easy, because there are no gravity wells to deal with, just as Jack Bell recently said. And such settlements can probably make a living as pit stops for those stubborn planetary chauvinists heading on out. (Last clean restroom for ...)
